Fillings

Fillings are used to restore the function and shape of a tooth that has been damaged by decay or trauma. A filling is placed into the cavity after the decayed portion of the tooth is removed. This helps prevent further deterioration of the tooth as a sealant is placed to protect the surrounding and underlying structures.

The process of applying a composite filling involves:

  1. Removing the decayed part of the tooth.
  2. Applying a bonding agent to help the composite material adhere to the tooth.
  3. Layering the composite resin into the cavity and shaping it to match the natural contours of the tooth.
  4. Hardening the filling using a special light.
  5. Polishing the filling for a smooth finish.
